God’s Order for the Church

Its easy to fall into the temptation of church being a spectator sport. Its so easy to sit back and watch other people actually do the work. If the old statistic is still true than 20% of the people do 80% of the work. This is definitely out of order. God gives clear instructions for the order of the church in Ephesians 4.

The Bible says: “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” Pastors and teachers are God’s gift to the church, even though sometimes I feel like a gag gift. Humor aside, what is the point of having a pastor? So that all the saints in the church can be equipped for the work of ministry. I exist to equip you to do ministry. God has placed me here to preach and teach you the Word. The Word is what equips you. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Without the Word of God we will not have the equipment we need to live the Christian life. When each saint is doing the work of ministry, instead of watching others do the work, then each member is edified. This means that every member is built up when every member does the work of ministry. We are all meant to do the work of ministry. We often use the phrase “called into ministry” when a man follows the call to preach; however, according to this passage every Christian is called into ministry.

Are you following God’s order for the church? Paul goes on to write: “according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” Are you doing your share? If one member fails to do its share, then the whole body suffers because it is not being edified. Are you “out of order”? If you are a Christian, and not doing the work of ministry, then you are indeed out of order. How do you get back in order? Well, you need to get equipped so that you can edify the whole body! You need to do your share. You need to role up your shelves, and do the work of ministry. Congratulations! You have the Holy Spirit living inside of you, and you have ministry to do! If you need any help in this then please let me know. I’d love to speak to you, and pray with you there you entering the ministry to the saints! If we want the results that God has promised, then we must follow God’s order. What are you waiting for? Get to work!

Until He Comes,

Pastor Allen
